Sanyo's tiny HD1000 is capable of recording full HD video onto SD cards, as well as taking 4-megapixel still images.
Sanyo today announced the availability of its Xacti HD1000, a camcorder capable of recording video in full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and taking 4-megapixel still images. The HD1000 utilizes the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video format and features a 10x optical HD lens and a 2.7-inch widescreen display.
The Xacti HD1000 weighs only 9.5 ounces and is claimed to be the world's smallest and lightest full HD camcorder to date. When recording video onto a 8GB SDHC memory card (sold separately), one can record up to approximately 85 minutes of full HD video or up to five hours of VGA quality video.
Sanyo has developed a new high-speed image processing engine to handle the high capacity demands of full HD data, which utilizes a proprietary codec. The Xacti HD1000 also comes equipped with HDMI output and a new Xacti Library function for easier file saving and playback.
A new "face chaser" function also automatically detects and isolates faces to assist the camera's exposure and auto-focus. The HD1000 is capable of detecting up to 12 independent faces at a time.
The Sanyo Xacti HD1000 is available now and has an MSRP of $800.
