Gefen, Pulse-LINK announce HDMI-Over-Coax extenderBy Matthew Ruiz, Saturday 5 January 2008
Gefen is to release an extender that allows any HD source to be used throughout a home over existing coaxial wiring.

Gefen and Pulse-LINK announced today the Gefen HDMI-Over-Coax Extender, which allows consumers to extend the reach of HDMI over their existing in-home coax cabling.

The device is built upon Pulse-LINK's CWave UWB HDMI-Over-Coax technology, and Gefen says the extension is "visually lossless," regardless of the location of the user's content source.

The extender uses an infrared back channel to enable users to use the same remote that controls their set-top box, DVR, Blu-ray or HD DVD player in all rooms throughout their home. The solution offers Gigabit data rates and is capable of simultaneous delivery of high quality, visually lossless video along with multi-channel digital audio.

Practical applications include needing only one high-definition disc player or one HD set-top-box in the entire home, and still being able to watch the content on any television throughout the home.

The Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender is planned for release in April 2008.
