Avid’s consumer division, Pinnacle Systems, announced today the Pinnacle Video Transfer, a device that records analog video onto any USB 2.0 storage device without a PC.
The single-button process records video from a TV, DVD player, PVR, camcorder or set-top box directly to an iPod Video, 3rd Gen iPod nano, iPod classic, Sony PSP, USB flash drive or hard drive. For each connected device, The user can select from three different recording levels, for each device, allowing control of the video quality and video size.
The Pinnacle Video transfer could easily be the easiest way for a novice to get the content they want from their DVDs and televisions onto personal devices. It will also allow consumers with to back up personal videos they have on VHS, Hi8 or VHS-C tape, making digital copies for safe keeping. Console gamers can also capture sessions in a digital format that can be edited later on a PC.
Videos are captured in the H.264 format, which users can customize the quality for each recording from three options (Good, Better or Best). At the highest setting (Best), videos are captured at up to 720x480 resolution. The device measures 4.843” x 2.638” x 0.906”, and supports multiple inputs including S-Video, composite video and stereo audio analog. With optional cables, the device can also be used to recharge an iPod or PSP battery during video transfer.
Pinnacle Video Transfer released January 15, 2008 and will retail at $130. Included with the device are three RCA audio/video cables, an 110v-230v power supply and a Quick Start Guide.
