Texas PC maker introduces its first tablet, a 12.1-inch convertible notebook for $2,500.
Dell finally unveiled its first tablet on Monday, the 12.1-inch Latitude XT. With a convertible swivel display, it can be used as either a conventional laptop or as a touch screen tablet.
The Latitude XT can be configured with a 64 GB solid state drive or a 120 GB hard drive, Intel Core 2 Solo or Duo processors and ATI's Radeon X1250 UMA integrated graphics.
Dell claims the XT will have faster touch response times than competing tablet models, advanced digital palm rejection technology (to prevent inadvertent contact that disrupts pen input) and a more robust touch digitizer.
The market for tablets remains small compared to regular laptop sales. According to IDC, OEMs will ship roughly one million convertible tablet PCs in 2007, compared to 89 million regular notebook PCs.
Dell says that the XT, which starts at $2,500, will ship by the end of the year.
