Aiming to attract more casual users, Nokia today announced a new Series 40 feature phone for T-Mobile's network.
Nokia today announced the new 6263 flip phone, featuring a flip design, a 2.2" 16 million color QVGA display and an included 512MB memory card. The 6263 is a typical S40 all-around phone and is specifically designed for T-Mobile's upcoming 3G network.
Although the Nokia 6263 promises to deliver a good experience for productivity-minded users, the handset is all about taking voice calls, sending messages and light web browsing with the bundled Opera Mini browser. Nokia claims a talk time of 6.5 hours on a GSM network and 3.5 hours on a 3G network.
Nokia has also found room for a mediocre 1.3 Megapixel camera, which we hoped would have been better when T-Mobile is actually including extra storage capacity in the sales package. As the S40 platform provides an average music player supporting all common audio formats, it would be possible to use the 6263 as a music phone though. However, customers who can't transfer songs via the handset's Bluetooth 2.0 connection will likely have to pay an extra $50 for a USB 2.0 cable.
The Nokia 6263 is available from T-Mobile today for $150 with a two-year contract.
