COWON's newest portable media player, the Q5w packs Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS into a 5" package.

COWON America has begun shipping its Q5W portable multimedia player, a 5-inch PMP with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The 600MHz AMD Alchemy Au1250-powered device has a touchscreen and uses the Windows CE 5.0 operating system.

The Q5W's integrated Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) enables users to wirelessly connect to the Internet for web browsing, e-mail and IM services. It also packs a pre-installed Flash player and Bluetooth 2.0, so users can wirelessly connect to Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones.

Available in 40GB or 60GB capacities, it comes with 128MB of DDR2 SDRAM and 64 MB of NOR Flash memory. The 5-inch, widescreen, 16-million-color LCD has a 800x480 (WVGA) resolution, and functions as a touch-sensitive interface for finger or stylus navigation.

The Q5W comes with a wireless remote controller, FM radio and recorder, voice recorder with internal microphone, built-in stereo speakers, TV-out supporting component, s-video and composite connections. It also functions as a full-screen photo and document viewer (Word, Excel and PowerPoint viewers available with optional Windows CE Professional Plus purchase). An USB 2.0 port enables rapid file transfers.

An optional GPS navigation package uses the COWON Navigator cradle, equipped with a GPS receiver antenna and an FM transmitter switch for audio playback on a vehicle's radio. The GPS package also includes Tele Atlas digital maps and NavMate navigation software.

The Q5W can playback AVI, ASF, WMW, MPEG and OGM video formats without transcoding, supporting DivX, XviD, MPEG4 and WMV 7/8/9 codecs, with a maximum video resolution of 720 x 480 at 30fps.

It also plays MP3, WMA, ASF, OGG, WAV, FLAC, APE and MPC audio file formats, and supports the MPEG 1/2/2.5 Layer 3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, Wave, FLAC, APE and Musepack codecs.

The built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 13 hours of audio and seven hours of video playback in a single charge, via an included wall charger.

The 40GB Q5W will retail for $550 and the 60GB configuration will sell for $600. The optional COWONGPS navigation package is available for $200.
