Aiming to increase the network performance and reduce usage costs for consumers, Motorola begins 3G femtocell trial.
Motorola has begun trialing its 3G femtocell solution with a major European carrier, the company announced today. Femtocell technology enables carriers to provide higher-quality and higher-performance wireless voice and real-time data services to their customers inside their homes.
For consumers, the benefits of femtocells include a seamless communication experience as they roam from inside to outside their homes, reduced "in-home" call charges, improved indoor coverage and consolidated billing, all from their existing 3G handsets.
In Western Europe, analyst Vincent Poulbere, Ovum, forecast that 12 million femtocells will be deployed in 2010 rising to 17 million in 2011.
Motorola did not disclose any information regarding their trial partner, but there's a good chance that selected Orange customers in the UK will soon take part in this new technology development.
