Today Microsoft announced the release of a limited-edition Zune player in collaboration with Latin Grammy-nominated artists Wisin y Yandel, Machete Music and Wal-Mart. The black, limited-edition Zune will come pre-loaded with the new Wisin y Yandel album, "Wisin vs. Yandel: Los Extraterrestres," before it is available in stores, and will also feature an exclusive track, music videos, photos and concert footage.
The new Wisin y Yandel Zune will pre-date the release of the duo's new album, scheduled to drop Nov. 6. Much like Sprint’s new Beyonce-branded B’Phone, the limited-edition 30GB Zune will come in a customized Wisin y Yandel package. The Zune, with a 3-inch color display and capacity for up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 pictures or 100 hours of video, will come pre-loaded with Wisin y Yandel's new 19-track album, "Wisin vs. Yandel: Los Extraterrestres," in addition to videos and an exclusive new single. The content will be available before the album is released to the general public for purchase through an exclusive retail distribution deal with Wal-Mart, who will sell the devices at 330 locations nationwide.
The deal includes an artist page on Zune.net, content available through Zune Marketplace, an artist of the month feature with MSN Latino, a behind-the-scenes making of "Sexy Movimiento" and the "Sexy Movimiento" video.
The release of the Wisin y Yandel Zune marks a concerted effort by Microsoft to connect with a Hispanic customer base.
"It's very important to let Latino audiences know they can trust Zune to deliver the music and digital experiences they want to tune into," said Javier Farfan, multicultural marketing manager for Zune at Microsoft. "Working with Wisin y Yandel, we have taken an innovative and authentic step to connect with Hispanics."
The limited-edition Zune will go on sale at Wal-Mart retailers on Oct. 29 for around $200.
