Samsung today announced the launch of the Samsung G800, a 5-megapixel phone with 3x optical zoom. Being a vital part of dedicated digital cameras, we've been waiting for optical zoom in camera phones for years now. Furthermore, Samsung adds face detection and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) functionality, which both are fairly new features in dedicated cameras.
Boasting 3X optical zoom and Xenon flash to enable close-ups, the G800 also comes with other up-to-date digital camera features such as panorama shots, multi shots and macro shots.
The G800 also provides a tool for sharing images and videos. Additionally, the Samsung G800 offers video editing functions so that people can easily cut, paste and edit their own films. A mobile blogging feature helps users to upload their favorite content. Supporting HSDPA, the G800 uploads photos or videos rapidly.
The G800 has a new viewfinder interface which is claimed to be intuitive and simple to use. An On Screen Display (OSD) shows various camera indicators in a horizontal preview mode.
The large 2.4-inch QVGA LCD wide display allows users to view the screen like a digital camera, and the optical zoom lens is an inner zoom, where the lens does not extend outside the body of the phone.
The Samsung G800 will be available in European countries from November 2007, and retail for approximately $500.
