Samsung's new music-playing phone debuts with everything you need to play music out of the box (except a music store).
Samsung today announced their newest music phone, the SGH-T539, or the Samsung Beat, as it will be branded on T-Mobile's network. If you'd mistaken the phone for an MP3 player, you'd be forgiven, as the external face of the clamshell tries hard to emulate a music player look. Unfortunately, that isn't a scroll wheel on the outside, but is actually a set of stereo speakers, so you'll be able to Beat your neighbors with your music as well.
The most remarkable aspect of this phone seems to be the included accessories. The phone will ship with a 1GB microSD card, stereo headphones, and, well, that at least puts you ahead of music phones from AT&T or Verizon Wireless. Of course, stereo Bluetooth will work as well, and if your music just isn't filling up your memory card fast enough, you can also take pics with the phone's 1.3-megapixel camera.
No word yet on pricing, but we expect this phone to come in at $100 or less. We're just as curious about the experience of getting music onto the phone as we are about listening to it once its been sideloaded, so we'll fill in all the details with a full review in the days to come.
