Sidekick LX with über-screen; $99 Palm Centro saves Sprint TV service; Nokia N95 now operating on AT&T's HSDPA network - which one snags the top spot?
If you're a music aficionado looking for an excellent music phone, the recent iPhone price drop to $400 has made the choice simple. If you're a hardcore smartphone fan, yesterday's release of the new Nokia N95 running on AT&T's HSDPA network has also made the choice simple.
Perhaps the simplest choice, however, did everyone else get just a few hours ago; the Palm Centro consumer QWERTY phone. There are no ground-breaking features in sight, but more importantly, the Palm Centro offers a ground-breaking price tag of $100. It'll provide a great calling and messaging experience, and should definitely be the phone of your choice if you're planning on streaming popular TV series to your phone this fall. In fact, the Palm Centro could end up saving the entire Sprint TV service, which up until now has only performed well on the most expensive Sprint business smartphones.
Still, we should not forget that earlier in the week, T-Mobile introduced the Sidekick Slide and LX at the other end of the price range. The Sidekick LX comes with a Sharp Aquos hi-def LCD display, which we're eager to check out. Weighing only 5.3 oz/150 g, the Sidekick Slide is on the other hand the most compact Sidekick to date. Still, both phones will need at least a $100 price cut before release if they should have any hope of being taken seriously in 2007.
