Sanyo debuts the Xacti HD700, an ultra compact camcorder capable of shooting 720p high-definition videos as well as 7.1-megapixel still photos. According to Sanyo, the Xacti HD700 is the company's best everyday-use camcorder ever, and is 16% smaller and 10% lighter than the HD2.
The HD700 uses the same new optical processing engine found in the recently announced VPC-HD1000, which is claimed to reduce power consumption. Web-ready videos are recorded in H.264 /MPEG-4 AVC format encoding, which are then stored on SD/SDHC memory cards (sold separately).
Sporting a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD that flips out from the camera and rotates up to 285 degrees, Sanyo also claims the camcorder to be especially useful when shooting in large crowds or in small rooms. The HD700 also features a 7.1-megapixel sensor (ISO 3200) and a 5x optical zoom lens for still photos.
The HD700 is designed to work with Apple's full complement of video editing applications including the new iMovie 08. For Windows users, Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 video editing software is included in the sales package.
The Sanyo Xacti HD700 will be available in silver, red and brown, and will retail for $600 at the end of October 2007.
