Anyone who has loaded Skype on a computer has probably noticed that it's rather heavy; so how to run it smoothly on a tiny smartphone?
The answer is iSkoot. Using the iSkoot Mobile client, users on any cellular network have the ability to make Skype-to-Skype calls on their mobile phone at the same cost as making a local call, and receive Skype calls at Skype's call-forwarding rates for mobile numbers. With the increasing number of Wi-Fi enabled smartphones, however, iSkoot may in a larger degree provide free calling in the future.
The client may not work with all carriers. As iSkoot is working closely with Skype, the client is fortunately free to download though, so it's just to go ahead and try it. On the positive side, it's expected that iSkoot will work like a breeze on Sprint's upcoming WiMAX network.
iSkoot today announced the launch of their new iSkoot v1.1 mobile application for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 smartphones, brining its software to over 200 additional devices worldwide. Earlier this year, iSkoot has also released software for a range of platforms including BlackBerry, Symbian S60, UIQ, Palm and J2ME (Java) enabled feature phones.
