New Coolpix models combine sturdy and aesthetically pleasing steel and aluminum casings with high resolution.
Nikon has announced two new Style series cameras, the 12-megapixel brushed aluminum S700 and the 8-megapixel stainless steel S510. The cameras pair a 3x zoom lens with 2.7-inch (S700) and 2.5-inch anti-reflective coated LCD (S510) screens.
Capturing images at a 16:9 aspect ratio, the cameras feature optical vibration reduction image stabilization technology and high ISO levels (3200 for the S700, 2000 for the S510) for fast-moving and low-lighted shots. The cameras have a start-up time of less than one second and a shutter lag of 5 milliseconds. Compatible with the SDHC cards, they also utilize the new ultra-compact EN-EL10 rechargeable Li-ion battery.
The S700 also offers distortion control that automatically corrects barrel distortion, in-camera red-eye fix and face priority auto-focus, which automatically finds and focuses on up to 12 people's faces within one frame. In playback mode, the D-Lighting feature compensates for excessive back-light or insufficient flash in images.
The Coolpix S700 and the Coolpix S510 will be available in September 2007 and will retail at $380 and $300, respectively.
