Sony introduces 2, 4 and 8GB video-enabled Walkman players, managed by Windows Media Player 11.
Sony today took the wraps off two new video-enabled Walkman players headed for the U.S. The new NWZ-A810 and NWZ-S610 music players have a standard user interface for accessing songs, videos and pictures, and will be the first Sony players that support video playback in the U.S.
Both players display video at 30 frames per second, and format support includes AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile and MPEG-4 video codecs as well as security-enhanced WMA and non-secure AAC and MP3 codecs. In addition, the players support JPEG files for photos. Music management is provided through the bundled Windows Media Player 11.
Users can download movie trailers, music videos, podcasts and video clips from the Internet, and Sony will also provide video content for both the new Walkman players through SonyStyle.
The Sony NWZ-A810 Walkman offers a 2-inch QVGA (320 by 240 pixels) LCD screen, up to 8 and 33 hours of video and music playback respectively, as well as shipping with higher quality Sony ear-buds (model MDR-EX082). Available now, the NWZ-A810 will retail for $140, $180 and $230, depending on the storage capacity.
The Sony NWZ-S610 (image gallery) features a 1.8-inch QVGA (320 by 240 pixels) LCD screen, an FM tuner with 30 presets, as well as up to 9.5 hours and 33 hours of video and music playback respectively. The Walkman players store up to 1,850 songs on the 8GB models, 925 songs on the 4GB models and 440 songs on the 2GB models.
For those who just want music sans video, Sony is also introducing the NWZ-B100, featuring USB direct connect, a three-line color LCD screen, an FM tuner with recording capability and up to 12 hours of battery life. The NWZ-B100 will come in 1GB ($60) and 2GB ($80) versions.
