TomTom's update to their motorcycle-centric Rider navigation device has features tailored to bikers.
TomTom announced the second edition of their Rider GPS navigation unit for motorcycles. The new Rider comes with motorcycle mounting hardware, and has an interface that is easy to use while wearing gloves. The unit is vibration resistant and waterproof, and can withstand rain and fuel splashes, according to the company. Maps of the U.S. and Canada are included on a 1GB SD card.
The Rider ships with a Cardo scala-rider Bluetooth headset which pipes spoken directions and also connects to a cell phone for calls. Of course, TomTom claims the headset sports some serious noise cancellation technology, and can be used with open or closed helmets. The unit even monitors your speed, so that when you are going to fast to hear spoken directions, it substitutes beeps instead.
Because of the specialized nature of the device, it isn't surprising to see its $700 price tag at the top of TomTom's range. Interested bikers can pick up a TomTom Rider now; they're available immediately.
