Sony's new ultra-compact digital cameras sport wide touch-screen LCDs and a curious lack of physical buttons.
Sony's new Cyber-shot T-series cameras are both completely controlled by an LCD touch-panel that manages all of the camera's settings. The touch screen allows you to select the subject you want to focus on (in shooting mode) and what you want to view or where you want to zoom (in playback mode).
The DSC-T200 features a 3.5-inch wide LCD, a 5x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens and is available in silver, black and red. The DSC-T70 sports a 3-inch wide LCD, a 3x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens and will be offered in silver, black, white and pink. Both cameras feature 8-megapixel sensors.
With the T200 and T70, photos can be viewed in full 1080 high-definition resolution on an HDTV. Connected to an HDTV set via the optional HD component cable or HD cradle, the camera's slide show function allows you to view photos with transitions to programmed or personal music clips. Sony has also developed "Photo TV HD" mode, for when the cameras are connected to a Sony BRAVIA HD television, which optimizes the photos for television viewing. This mode reproduces high-quality digital photos by fine-tuning image parameters like sharpness, gradation and color specifically for photographs.
The T-series cameras can edit and enhance images in-camera with the touch screen, and users can select different aspect ratios, like the standard 4:3, or the widescreen 16:9 used on most flat-screen televisions.
The Cyber-shot DSC-T200 and DSC-T70 digital cameras will ship in September for about $400 and $300, respectively.
