Aimed at first-time users and families, Canon's new A-series cameras don't skimp on features.
Canon today announced two new PowerShot A-series compact cameras, including the 12.1 Megapixel A650 IS and the 8 Megapixel A720 IS. Both cameras feature a grip for a natural fit and stable handling in silver and black colors.
The PowerShot A650 IS (image gallery) is designed for photo enthusiasts looking for a versatile camera emphasizing both image quality and creative control. The A650 IS offers a resolution of 12.1 Megapixel, a 6x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization and 21 shooting modes. All this is navigated via a mode dial and viewed via a 2.5-inch LCD screen.
The PowerShot A720 IS is designed for moms and dads on-the-go with their busy, growing families. With 8 Megapixel resolution, optical image stabilization and VGA recording, the camera aims to capture and preserve memories through both still images and video clips. The camera also features a wide array of creative shooting modes, a simple control layout and an ergonomically correct grip.
Both the new A-series cameras are also built for fun at the beach, as optional cases that are waterproof at depths up to 130 feet are available.
The estimated selling prices of the PowerShot A650 IS and PowerShot A720 IS are $400 and $250, respectively. Both models are scheduled to be available in September. The A650 IS camera kit includes four AA batteries, 32MB SD memory card, USB cable, AV cable, wrist strap and Canon's software suite. The A720 IS offers the same kit, except for only offering a 16MB SD memory card and two AA batteries.
