Sporting a range of DSLR-like features, Canon today introduced its PowerShot G9 12.1 Megapixel camera.
Canon today announced its new PowerShot G9 compact camera, offering a feature-packed camera with many of the advanced photographic capabilities of a high-end DSLR camera. Coming in a matte black finish, the G9 boasts a 12.1 Megapixel resolution, 6x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization and advanced face detection technology.
The camera also features RAW Mode, enabling the use of RAW+JPEG functionality, so photographers can snap JPEG images for immediate use and RAW images for more extensive image editing later on.
The PowerShot G9 comes equipped with 23 shooting modes, aiming to offer users DSLR-like capability in a compact camera. Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor has also been incorporated, along with a 3-inch LCD screen as well as support for optional Canon wide-angle, telephoto and macro supplementary lenses. Other optional accessories include EOS Speedlite flashes and a waterproof case rated to a depth of 40 meters/130 feet.
The PowerShot G9 is bundled with the latest version of Canon's digital imaging software, including ZoomBrowser EX 6.0 and ImageBrowser 6.0 for downloading, viewing and printing. The camera also supports MMC, standard SD as well as high-capacity SDHC memory cards.
In stores in October, the Canon PowerShot G9 camera kit includes a rechargeable battery and battery charger, a 32MB MMC plus memory card, a USB interface cable, an AV cable, a neck strap and Canon's software suite at an estimated selling price of $500.
