Sirius' new dock and play radio features a color screen and customizable backlighting.

Sirius today announced the newest version of their Sportster dockable satellite radio, the Sportster 5. Like its predecessors, the Sportster 5 will work in the plethora of docks Sirius has available, including car docks, home stereo docks and portable boom box-style docking stations. Improved from the previous model, the Sportster 5 now features a color screen and backlighting that you can adjust to match your car's interior lighting, or your mood. The new Sportster 5 is also the lightest Sportster to date.

We got to take a look at the new Sportster at Sirius' headquarters in New York City today, and we generally liked the new color screen. Otherwise, the device is mostly unchanged. It still has the Sirius Replay feature which creates a 60-minute buffer for rewinding songs and programming. It also features the S-Seek Alert, which remembers songs you select and automatically jumps to channels that play them. In other words, you may not be able to download songs from Sirius, but when they happen to show up in a playlist, at least you'll be able to hear them as they're played.

The Sirius Sportster 5 will be available in the fall of 2007 and will cost $170.
