Canon's newest compact camcorder, the HG10 AVCHD Hard Disk Drive Camcorder, has the same 10x HD lens and sensor as the HV20, Canon's HDV camcorder, but fits up to 15 hours of HD footage on its 40GB hard drive. The videos are recorded in the AVCHD format, burnable to a Blu-ray disc. The HG10 comes with instant autofocus and image stabilizing features, and is bundled with Corel's video software suite, which is unfortunately windows-only.
Canon managed to squeeze in some still photography capabilities, but the 3.1 megapixel photos saved to a miniSD card will probably look better on your television than when printed. For added functionality users can screen-grab 2-megapixel stills directly from the HD video footage during playback on the 2.7" Widescreen LCD.
The HG10 will be available in October and will cost around $1300.
