Microsoft's is dropping the MSRP of their Xbox 360 HD DVD Player from $199 to $179, bundling the player with five free HD DVDs for a limited time. Customers who purchase an Xbox360 HD DVD player between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30 will also get their choice of five HD DVDs from a selection of 15 titles.

Microsoft is also working in conjunction with Warner Bros. to offer HD versions of "300" on demand via their Xbox Live service starting Aug. 14. As a cross-platform promotion of the "Heroes: Season 1" HD DVD boxed set, Microsoft will also allow Xbox Live members to download the show's pilot episode in high definition free of charge for a limited time, in advance of the set's street date. Xbox Live Members will also be able to download trailers, teaser scenes and other promotional materials highlighting the "Heroes: Season 1" boxed set on HD DVD.
