JVC announces a compact high-definition camcorder that stores up to 7 hours of HD video.
JVC's new Everio GZ-HD3 camcorder combines a 3-CCD image sensor, high-definition recording and embedded 60GB hard disk storage in a compact design. Weighing a mere 1.5 lbs, the GZ-HD3 is 27 percent smaller than its sibling, the GZ-HD7.
By using three 16:9 progressive scan CCDs, each dedicated to one of the three primary colors - red, green, blue - the image sensor is claimed to deliver vivid and accurate color reproduction. Recording in native HD format, the lens block also uses CCD pixel shift technology to increase horizontal and vertical resolution.
The GZ-HD3 sports JVC's HD Gigabrid Engine, which applies five different noise reduction technologies to improve vertical resolution by approximately 30 percent from previous JVC standard definition camcorders. The camcorder uses a Konica Minolta HD lens, which is structured in a way to reduce the total size of the camcorder.
The built-in 60GB HDD can store up to 7 hours of HD recording, and offers three recording modes with bit rates ranging from 30Mbps to 22Mbps. JVC has also equipped the GZ-HD3 with HDMI and component outputs for connection to televisions as well as USB and i.LINK ports for connection to computers.
Bundling HD Editing CyberLink BD Solution software for Windows and a plug-in for Mac use, the JVC Everio GZ-HD3 will retail for $1300 in September 2007.
