Sony today took the wraps off its new line of Vaio TZ ultraportable notebooks. The Vaio TZ weighs only 2.65 pounds and measures less than 1-inch thin. To be available in classic black, premium carbon, champagne gold and handpainted Bordeaux, the Vaio TZ has a carbon-fiber casing that contributes to its ultraportable design.
The Vaio TZ series is comprised of the VGN-TZ170NB (100GB HD, 1.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor) and the VGN-TZ191NX (32 GB flash-based HD, 1.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor). Both notebooks have 2GB of internal memory, an 11.1-inch widescreen display, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Equipped with Sprint Mobile Broadband, the Vaio TZ also offers 3.1 Mbps EV-DO rev. A connectivity, but a separate Sprint subscription is required to activate this feature. Sony claims a battery life from 4 to 7.5 hours on a full charge for its new notebooks.
The Vaio TZ keyboard's keys are raised slightly above a black layer to provide a user-friendly touch, and an extra support layer has also been added for quieter typing.
Featuring Instant Mode, the Vaio TZ can also go straight to watching a movie, playing music or viewing photos at the touch of a button - without having to boot-up the operating system. In September, Sony will launch a new Vaio-branded LF-V30 base stations, which will allow for remote access to a personal video recorder or DVD player.
Powered by Windows Vista Business, the Sony Vaio VGN-TZ170NB will start at about $2200, while the VGN-TZ191NX will go for around $3200.
