Which phones offer the best viewing and display interaction? We look back at our ratings of the best from Palm, Nokia, the Windows Mobile world and, of course, Apple.
Plagued by mediocre displays for years, the mobile world is finally seeing a change. Palm has ranked high on our charts for years, setting the standard for a magnificent display experience that is so valuable on a smartphone.
Nokia also offers a couple of smartphones that use superior displays, although they still (after so many years) aren't capable of fulfilling the needs of users in search of the smooth interaction provided by touch screens.
Microsoft, on the other hand, has partnered with several manufacturers over the years, such as HTC, and cranked out smartphones powered by touch screens, but mainly with a lower QVGA resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.
Most recently, Apple finally started shipping its iPhone, which sets a new standard for smartphones in terms of display experience. When looking at the specifications of its competitors on the list below, Apple has taken all the best from the rest and created an über-screen for the iPhone. On top of that, they offer a revolutionary multi-touch user interface.
We don't know exactly how long it'll take Palm, Nokia and HTC to come up with smartphones that match Apple's display solution, but unless they started working on it last year already, we won't see them coming out until late 2008 or later.
