New GPS device features MapShare software for community updating of maps and points of interest.
If your navigation device has ever guided you the wrong way through a construction zone, TomTom's new Go 720 has an interesting solution to your problem. The new device features MapShare, which lets you correct the map on the go, and then upload your corrections to TomTom's server. When you encounter a changed route, road sign or point of interest, the new Go 720 will store your changes, and PC synchronization will allow it to adjust itself based on changes other users have made.
The device also features some interesting personalization options, including the ability to let your loved ones record directions so that the phone will squawk the route back to you in a familiar voice. A new "Help Me!" menu simplifies access to local Police, Hospital and car repair services. The device also features a built-in FM transmitter to broadcast directions over your car's stereo. While listening to MP3s or an iPod docked to the device, you can set the volume for the music or the voice directions independently.
