The mini 5.1 channel home theater system includes five small speakers, a subwoofer and a DVD/CD player/receiver.
Bigger isn't always better, especially to those who live in small apartments, so Sony released its DAV-IS10, which it calls a micro home theater system. The DAV-IS10 features five tiny speakers, which the company claims are about the size of a golf ball. Even though speakers are small, the system, which also includes a subwoofer and a DVD/CD player, manages to pack in 450 watts of power. According to Sony, the subwoofer helps the miniature speakers produce sounds that are usually only heard from full sized speakers.
The home theater's DVD player is also small, and can only play one disk at a time, but it also can upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i resolutions when connected with an HDMI cable to an HDTV. The DVD/CD player has touch sensitive controls that light up and disappear, in case you can't find the bundled universal remote.
The DAV-IS10 home theater system includes Sony's Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, which the company claims provides a balanced sound. The system also has Bravia Theatre Sync technology, which uses HDMI to connect compatible TVs to the home theater system, so you just need one remote.
The Sony DAV-IS10 will be available in July and should retail for about $800.
