The company's latest LUMIX camera includes a 12.2-megapixel sensor and 3.6X optical zoom.

Hot off the heals of Casio's announcement of the 12.1-megapixel Exilim EX-Z1200 camera, Panasonic introduces its LUMIX DMC-FX100 point and shoot, featuring a 12.2-megapixel sensor. The camera also packs in a LEICA DC 28mm wide-angle lens with 3.6X optical zoom, which is a bit higher than the Casio camera with 3X optical zoom. The LUMIX DMC-FX100 offers up optical image stabilization for clearer snapshots along with high-sensitivity ISO for taking pictures of fast-moving subjects.

According to Panasonic, the DMC-FX100 can shoot high-definition stills with a resolution of 1920 by 1080, along with HD videos with a resolution of 1280 by 720 at 15fps. The images and videos can then be enjoyed on a high-def TV.

The petite camera (3.8 by 2.1 by 1 inches) has a 2.5-inch LCD display, and several scene modes, including a high speed burst function that can shoot eight pictures per second at 2-megapixels. The LUMIX also includes in-camera organization for images and video, and separates them into portrait, landscape, motion pictures, nightscapes and events categories. The Panasonic camera also includes a slideshow feature for playback.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX100 will be available in silver and black in July, but there's no word yet on pricing.
