The megapixel count race is still alive and well as Casio announced its latest point and shoot to hit the Exilim line, the EX-Z1200, which packs in a 12.1-megapixel sensor. The camera is set to replace Casio's Exilim EX-Z1000, which featured a 10-megapixel sensor. Unlike the recently released Exilim EX-V7 that boasted 7X optical zooming capabilities, the EX-Z1200 includes a mere 3X optical zoom. However, the Exilim EX-Z1200 has plenty of blur-reduction features, such as mechanical image stabilization, 1600 ISO sensitivity and auto-tracking autofocus with face detection.
The Casio Exilim EX-Z1200 also features a video recorder function that shoots footage in both H.264/AVC and MOV formats. The camera also includes image stabilization while in video mode.
The EX-Z1200 sports the standard, rectangular digital camera look and will be released in basic black or silver models. The Casio camera is relatively compact at 3.7 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches and 5.4 ounces. The camera also has a large 2.8-inch LCD. The Casio Exilim EX-Z1200 will be available toward the middle of July and should retail for $400.
