The HD video recorder sports a petite profile, and footage shot can be viewed directly on your HDTV.
Canon announced its HR10 high definition camcorder, which features a 10X optical zoom lens and a sensor capable of recording at 1920 by 1080 HD resolution. Canon utilizes the Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVCHD) technology, introduced by Sony and Panasonic, to record on to 3-inch DVD disks, which can be played on AVCHD compatible DVD players or most Blu-ray players. Footage shot with the HR10 can also be viewed directly on your HDTV via HDMI.
Canon packs in its instant auto-focus system and optical image stabilization, which it claims ensures smooth, clear footage in extreme lighting conditions. The video camera also features three programmable zooming speeds to help ensure steady footage no matter how hard you press on the zoom lever. The HR10 also includes a 24p Cine Mode feature, which produces a "film-look" by changing the camera's frame rate to 24p -- the same frame rate used when shooting movies. According to the company, users can edit the color and tone of a scene to resemble films seen in theaters.
The Canon HR10 is relatively compact as far as HD camcorders go, and it has a 2.7-inch LCD screen with an anti-glare coating, which Canon claims can be seen from up to 135 degrees at any angle. Like many camcorders, the HR10 also includes a 3.1-megapixel sensor for capturing still shots. The HR10 allows you to extract still images from videos you've recorded, which can then be stored on a miniSD card.
The Canon HR10 will be available in August and should retail for $1200.
