The new BlackBerry 8830 messaging phone is RIM's first handset to combine EV-DO and GSM/GPRS connectivity, enabling users to get voice and data coverage worldwide. Automatically switching between CDMA and GSM networks, the 8830 will support e-mail retreival in more than 60 countries and voice coverage in more than 150 countries.
The BlackBerry 8830 sports a full QWERTY keyboard and supports Bluetooth, however, a digital camera has not been included in order to meet corporate requirements. Owners of the BlackBerry 8830 will also have access to 24/7 tech support, and Verizon will offer free tech support from abroad.
Verizon Wireless will offer unlimited data usage for $65/month with a voice plan, or $70/month for a data plan only.
The BlackBerry 8830 will be available through Verizon Wireless' website on May 14 and in retail stores on May 28. The price of the handset itself will range from $199 to $399, depending on the data plan and contract selected at the time of purchase. Check back soon for our full review.
