The updated portable navigator features a 3.5-inch touch screen display, along with a bevy of amenities.
Pioneer introduced its AVIC-S2 GPS receiver, which is an update on the company's own AVIC-S1. Like the AVIC-S1, the Pioneer AVIC-S2 features a 3.5-inch display with a touch screen interface and supports the Bluetooth hands-free profile. Using their Bluetooth-enabled phones, drivers can answer and make calls with the AVIC-S2's speakerphone and touch screen. The device can also store your handset's contact list.
The updated feature to the AVIC-S2 is the addition of an MP3 player. Users can side-load their favorite tunes with the SD card slot on the navigational system. The AVIC-S2 will then display music information and can be customized using the integrated 10-band equalizer. Maps for the U.S and Canada that can be viewed in 2D or 3D modes are also side-loaded onto the device using the bundled 1GB SD card. The card also has a points-of-interest database from TeleAtlas that features more than 1.7 million restaurants, shopping centers and more.
The Pioneer AVIC-S2 will be available in late April 2007 and should retail for $400.
