"Halo" fans will get the chance to check out the first version of the popular game designed for the Xbox 360.
Microsoft and Bungie studios announced the dates for the multiplayer beta testing for "Halo 3" on Xbox LIVE, which will begin on May 16 at 5 a.m. PDT and end on June 6 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. The "Halo" game series has been very popular and the third game will be released exclusively for Xbox 360 this fall.
According to Microsoft, admission to the beta test is still available if you purchase a specially marked copy of "Crackdown," which was released in February 2007. However, several gamers secured their admission to the beta by participating in the "Rule of Three"
promotion, which required "Halo" fanboys to play three hours of "Halo 2" on Xbox LIVE during the three day period of February 1 through February 3, 2007. Thereafter, players had to register on February 5 at halo3.com and hope they were one of the first 13,333 gamers to receive access. Gamers with admission keys to the beta will be able to download the beta on Xbox LIVE, and go online using their Xbox LIVE Gold account.
The "Halo 3" beta will give gamers their first chance to check out new levels, vehicles, weapons and game types for the highly anticipated title. The beta will also give game developer, Bungie Studios additional data that it will use in further development of the game. Those participating in the multiplayer beta will find new maps, such as Snowbound, High Ground and Valhalla that represent a mixture of the combat environments in "Halo 3." Gamers will also get the opportunity to test out new vehicles, including the Mongoose all-terrain vehicle, as well as check out the updated weapons like the Assault Riffle, the Brute Spiker, the Spartan Laser and the Spike Grenades.
Microsoft also announced a documentary titled "Is Quisnam Protero Damno!" that is available on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and www.bungie.net, which serves up a behind-the-scenes look at the development of "Halo 3."
