In honor of the PSP's second anniversary, Sony reduces the device's price from $200 to $170 and adds two games to its "Greatest Hits" collection.
Sony celebrated the second anniversary of the PSP with a price reduction of $30. The Sony PSP Core Pack, which includes the portable gaming console, battery and an AC adaptor, is now available in North America for $170. However, even with the new lower price, the PSP still cost $40 more than its primary competition, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite. Combined, the Nintendo portable consoles have sold about 35 million units worldwide compared to the PSP's 24.7 million. In the U.S., PSP sales still trail behind those of the Nintendo DS by about a million units.
Sony also announced that "Daxter" and "Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror" are the newest games to join the PSP "Greatest Hits" collection and will retail for $20, which is about half the price of newly released PSP games.
