Not a full month after JVC announced its Everio GZ-HD7 full high-def video camera, Panasonic upgraded its HDC-SD1 and HDC-DX1 high-definition camcorders to full HD resolution at 1920 by 1080i resolution with the HDC-SD3 and the HDC-DX3. The cameras feature 12X optical zoom, 3-inch LCD displays and 2.1-megapixel sensors for taking stills.
Unlike the JVC camcorder which featured a 60GB internal hard drive, Panasonic's HDC-SD3 and the HDC-DX3 record on SD cards and DVDs respectively. According to Panasonic, the HDC-SD3 battery can record for 90 minutes at full HD with a 4GB SDHC card. The HDC-SD3 is surprisingly lightweight at 1.1 pounds with the battery and a SD card. The HDC-DX3 tips the scales at 1.8 pounds with the battery and a disk.
The Panasonic HDC-SD3 and HDC-DX3 will be available in Japan on April 25, but there's no word yet on what these cameras will cost or if we'll see them stateside.
