The Kingston DataTraveler Secure and the DataTraveler Secure - Privacy Edition flash drives include AES hardware encryption for data protection.

Kingston announced the availability of its 8GB DataTraveler Secure and DataTraveler Secure - Privacy Edition USB 2.0 flash drives, which are waterproof up to four feet. Both drives are compact, at 3.1 by 0.9 by 0.5 inches, and have sleek, titanium-coated stainless steel casings that can operate in severe temperatures ranging between 32 and 140 degrees farenheit.

Kingston, a California-based memory manufacturer, is gearing the DataTraveler Secure toward small to medium-sized businesses, while the DataTraveler Secure - Privacy Edition is targeted at larger businesses. Both USB drives feature data protection provided by the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware-based encryption, which lets you to encrypt and decrypt your files without the need for additional software. The DataTraveler Secure also includes MyDataZone software that allows you to apply a password to access the private data storage area on the device. The DataTraveler Secure - Privacy Edition features a password protocol that locks up after entering the wrong password 10 times in a row, but other than that, we don't see much difference between the two.

Both Kingston flash drives are compatible with Windows 2000 and XP (Vista compatibility will be available mid-2007) and are available in size ranging from 512MB to the 8GB models. The DataTraver Secure will set you back $38 to $282, respectively, while the DataTraveler Secure - Privacy Edition is a bit pricier, ranging from $50 to $350, respectively.
