Aimed at video sharing enthusiasts, Sanyo is set to debut its new pocket-sized Xacti CG-65 digital video camera in April.
Set for an April U.S. debut, the pocket-sized Xacti CG65 is Sanyo's first digital video camera to feature H.264 video compression technology. A codec that aims to reduce MPEG-4 file sizes with up to 25%. In addition, video-processing using 9-pixel mixture technology are claimed to make recording of both movies and stills possible even in semi-dark environments.
The CG-65 supports still pictures of up to 6-megapixels with ISO 1600 sensitivity, however is mainly geared towards video sharing enthusiasts. Still pictures can also be taken while recording video. The H.264 codec used in the camera claims to provide a good combination of high-quality video and compact file sizes. The storage capacity of video recordings are claimed to be 10 hours with an 8 GB SDHC memory card, and up to 2.5 hours with a standard 2 GB SD card.
The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG65 will be available in the U.S. in April for approximately $400 US.
Sanyo also announced the availability of the Xacti CG6 digital video camera today (image gallery). A camera very similar to the Xacti CG65, but without the H.264 video compression technology. Selling at approximately $330 US, the Xacti CG6 will be available at the end of March.
