JVC announced the Everio GZ-HD7, which the company claims is first consumer high-definition camcorder with 1920 by 1080i resolution. However we're a bit hesitant to hand over the "world's first" title, as HD camcorders have been available to consumers for years. JVC included a number of features, such as a Fujinon lens with 10x optical zoom and mechanical image stabilization, and claim they will produce clear, sharp video.
The GZ-HD7 packs in a 60GB hard drive, which JVC claims will record for five hours in HD at 30Mbps, eliminating the need for traveling with tapes or discs. Once you've captured your video, it can be transferred via USB or iLink to your computer, though iLink transfers will be downconverted to standard def, or can be played directly on your HDTV with an HDMI connection.
The JVC Everio GZ-HD7 will be available in April and will retail for $1,800.
