The video cameras do away with discs and tapes in favor of integrated hard drives and removable SD cards.
JVC introduced a bevy of camcorders into its Everio fleet, including the GZ-MG555, the GZ-MG225, the GZ-MG155 and the GZ-MG130. Both the GZ-MG555 and the GZ-MG225 offer 10X optical zoom, while the GZ-155 and the GZ-130 offer impressive 32X optical zoom and 34X optical zoom, respectively. While they might not shoot in high-definition like JVC's Everio GZ-HD7, which was also recently announced, they do all include 30 gigabyte hard drives. JVC claims that the camcorders can shoot seven hours worth of video at DVD movie quality with a hard drive this size. The Everio cameras also have an SD card slot, for another storage option.
The integrated hard drive isn't a new feature for the Everio lineup, and JVC also upgraded the still-image sensor on the line's flagship camera, the GZ-MG555, to 5.37-megapixels, which they claim is the highest offered in a camcorder with an included hard drive. JVC also claims that all cameras also feature a more user-friendly video transfer interface, with one-touch DVD burning and one-touch backup to a PC.
The GZ-MG555 will be available in March and should retail for $900. The GZ-M225 and GZ-MG 155 were released in February for $700 and $600, respectively. The GZ-MG130 was released in January and costs $500.
