Following yesterday's Nielsen report on game consoles on the rise, Microsoft today announces that Xbox Live has reached 6 million users.
Microsoft today announced that the goal of reaching 6 million members by June 2007 has already been accomplished 4 months ahead of schedule. With Xbox Live, Microsoft aims to offer an online marketplace for purchasing entertainment content such as online gaming as well as full-length movies and TV shows.
Its large member base has been reached by shipping more than 10 million Xbox 360s to store shelves since November 2005, and more than 160 high-def games are now available including "Viva Piñata", "Gears of War" and "Crackdown". Xbox 360 is currently available in 37 countries, and the overall software attach rate is 4.6 titles per console in the United States. The accessory attach rate is currently at 2.9 units per console.
Microsoft's top title, Halo 2, has been a vital factor in attracting gamers to Xbox Live, and gamers have spent over 710 million hours playing online with over a half a billion games played. According to Microsoft, the Xbox Live service is also growing into a social online community as more than 2,000,000 text and voice messages are sent every day between members of the service.
