The bare-bones flip phone offers two color choices, red and brown, along with a speakerphone and instant messaging.

T-Mobile adds to its fleet of basic calling phones with the Samsung SGH-T219. The flip phone is an update of the manufacturer's own SGH-T209, but the T219 pumps up the style. Though the SGH-T219 isn't thin at 0.8 inches, its striking color variants in red and chocolate brown will definitely grab attention. The lightweight clamshell (2.8 ounces) has a monochrome external display and a decent-sized (1.8 inches) internal TFT screen.

The Samsung SGH-T219 doesn't include many of the calling features we expect from a calling phone, like Bluetooth and voice commands. However, the tri-band flip phone does have a speakerphone and voice memos, along with messaging functions, such as SMS, MMS and instant messaging support for AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. Additional features that are sometimes found on entry-level handsets, including a camera, memory expansion and a music player, are non-existent on the T219.

Price & availability

The Samsung SGH-T219 is available immediately from T-Mobile for $20 with a two-year service contract.
