With a full QWERTY keypad and a unique, dual-hinge design, the Samsung SCH-U740 joins the enV on Verizon Wireless' messaging line-up.

Verizon Wireless is now shipping the Samsung SCH-U740, a phone we previewed at CES 2007 (read our original hands-on here.) The phone opens on one hinge as a clamshell, and sideways as a QWERTY phone. The phone has the full feature set you'd expect from a messaging phone on Verizon's EV-DO V Cast network, including GPS for VZ Navigator, and support for V Cast video and music, though A2DP stereo Bluetooth support is lacking. It has the 1.3-megapixel camera we saw at CES, and can be had for $150 after contract and rebates.
The phone takes aim at the LG VX9900 enV , also on Verizon Wireless, though that phone is $50 more expensive. The higher price does get you a feature bump, as the enV trumps the U740 with a 2-megapixel camera, A2DP support, and stereo speakers built into the device. To its credit, the SCH-U740 supports Broadband Access, Verizon Wireless' tethered modem service on their EV-DO network.
Look for our full review of the SCH-U740 soon, and a thorough head-to-head between these two, unique QWERTY messaging devices.
