The Samsung Ultra Edition U700 is quite striking, with a metallic blue shell that, naturally enough, strongly resembles its sibling, the recently announced Ultra Edition U600. Both feature slider form factors, large 2.2-inch displays and slim profiles, except that the U700 is a hair (0.1 inches) thicker than the U600.
In this case, the added bulk is definitely worth it, as the U700 supports the high-speed HSDPA network and sports a 3-megapixel and VGA camera for video conferencing. The quad-band slider does have world phone capabilities, but if this phone makes it stateside, you can probably say good-bye to that extra camera. Like the U600, the Ultra Edition U700 features Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, ensuring speedy transfers of images and songs.
The U700 ups the ante with its multimedia offerings, including a media player that supports MPEG4, H.263 and Real files in addition to music files. The slider also boasts mobile e-mail and microSD memory expansion.
Price & availability
The Samsung Ultra Edition U700 should be released in Europe by spring 2007, but pricing details has yet to be announced.
