Fast on the heels of Samsung's impressive, touch-screen F700 handset comes yet another touch-screen device: the F520 Ultra Smart, a pared-down version of the F700 with a three-inch touch screen, a two-way slide-out keypad (with both QWERTY and numeric keypad layouts) and HSDPA support in the 2100 band (not as speedy as the F700's 7.2Mbps HSDPA radio and, for now at least, unsupported in the States).
Introduced at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona, the F520's three-inch, 262,000-color touch screen and Flash-powered user interface represents the latest salvo in the touch-screen battle (besides the F700, we've also seen the LG KE850 "Prada" phone and, of course, the upcoming Apple iPhone).
Otherwise, Samsung's new slider packs a decent punch in the feature department, including a 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, a media player (compatible with MPEG4, H.263, H.264, MP3, AAC and Real files), and microSD memory expansion. Productivity apps include a document viewer (no word on Office support), WAP and HTML browsers.
