The polar white flavor of the Katana, previously a Radio Shack exclusive, arrives in Sprint's lineup in time for winter. Best features: a VGA camera and Bluetooth.

Attention, fashion-conscious chatters: if you've been pining for the white version of the Sanyo Katana (read our full review) but didn't want to venture out to your local Radio Shack, you're in luck. The polar white version of the sleek clamshell (which is also available in blue sapphire, mystic black, and cherry blossom pink) just dropped on Sprint's Web site.

The Katana White maintains the same basic calling features as its predecessor, including a VGA camera, Bluetooth, a speakerphone and voice tagging. The clamshell is also 1xRTT-only, so you won't have access to the Sprint Power Vision network. Fortunately, the White Katana won't cost you a dime extra compared to the original, and retails for $50 on Sprint with a two-year service agreement.

Specifications

  • CDMA/1xRTT
  • VGA camera
  • Bluetooth
  • Voice tagging
  • Speakerphone
  • Measures: 3.9 by 2 by 0.6 inches
  • Weight: 3.4 ounces

    Price & availability

The Sanyo Katana White is available immediately from Sprint and retails for $280 or $50 with a two-year service contract.

The entry-level flip phone boasts a rugged (albeit bulky) design and calling features including a speakerphone, push-to-talk and voice tagging. But does the $30 price tag make the extra girth worth it?
