The entry-level clamshell serves up the basics, including a VGA camera, instant messaging and a speakerphone.

Samsung's SCH-U340 bolsters Verizon's entry-level stable of handsets. The clamshell is a bit bulky at 0.8 inches thick and features a matte blue shell that surrounds a one inch monochrome external display. Despite its hefty appearance, the SCH-U340 is relatively light at just 2.8 ounces.

The flip phone is also light on features, and doesn't include much beyond the basics, making it a nice option for cell phone neophytes and technophobes. The SCH-U340 does include a few amenities, such as a VGA camera, a speakerphone, voice commands, hearing aid compatibility and instant messaging. Though the clamshell is quite basic the price is just right … free.
