Editor's note: Sony Ericsson has finally released more details on the W880; get the full scoop right here.
Design:
The Sony Ericsson W880 looks to be one of, if not the slimmest Walkman phone yet. At a visual estimate, we would place the phone under half an inch in thickness. The shell is brushed metal, emblazoned in numerous spots with a Walkman logo, but even the official press photos are obscured and have a depth-of-field blur around the edges. The look is similar to the Sony Ericsson W950 Walkman phone.
Features:
Except for the fact that it will be a Walkman music phone, Sony Ericsson has released no official information about the W880. The product's numbering places it between the current W810 and W950 models. The W950 runs the Symbian OS with a touch screen and supports UMTS for high-speed networking; the W810 is less of a smartphone, but does feature a 2-megapixel camera and EDGE network capabilities. Pictures of the W880 show what looks to be a front-facing camera, but we wouldn't be surprised to see this feature lopped off for the U.S. carriers who have yet to support it. We expect to see this phone, or at least learn more about it, in the second quarter of 2007.
Price & availability
The Sony Ericsson W880 is now available for approximately $550 US.
