The new MVNO offers pre-paid plans that list Asia as a local call. Also: Watches boasting Bluetooth and caller ID, and Nextel rocks the vote.
New MVNO for Chinese-Americans gets pocketbook-friendly
For those of you who drop big bucks on calls to China, keeping in touch with family and friends in the Far East got cheaper -- way cheaper. Thanks to the new MVNO on the block, Red Pocket Mobile, calls to China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong are now the same rate as a call anywhere in the States. The pay-as-you-go service adopted Motorola's RAZR V3 and the C139 into its stable of handsets. Red Pocket Mobile also features menus written in Chinese and customer service reps fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. (Source: Motorola)
Sony Ericsson and Fossil launch hi-tech timepieces
Ever feel like you watch is not living up to its full potential? Sure it has an alarm, a date window, and maybe even a stop watch, but can it manage your calls? Well, Sony Ericsson and Fossil announced that they have teamed up to give watches an "Inspector Gadget"-style makeover that will integrate Bluetooth and caller ID. The just-released MBW-100, for example, lets you answer and reject calls and control your tunes -- and it's even water resistant up to 30 meters underwater, according to the companies. Fossil's Abacus Mobile Wear and Caller ID watches are designed to work with most Sony Ericsson Bluetooth-enabled handsets, including the K790a cameraphone and the K610i candy bar handset. NASCAR fans rev up to vote
Racing fanatics have a tough decision to make. Sprint Nextel is giving racing fans the chance to honor a driver with the "Nextel Most Dramatic Moment" award. During the next nine weeks, speed demon-enthusiasts can put their fingers to the keypads on their Sprint Nextel Web-enabled phones, voting for their faves via SMS messages in the three-round system, which culminates at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series award ceremony on December 1. The numbers drop slightly to 30 percent during rush hour (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) -- let's just hope they're not behind the wheel while watching their mobile video.
