Just announced for the Vodafone network in Europe, the UMTS-enabled 750v drops the external antenna and adds some key new features. We take a hands-on look in Los Angeles.
For months, we've been seeing fuzzy cameraphone images of an antenna-less 3G Treo, and at last it's arrived -- in Europe, at least. Besides chucking the annoying antenna, the handset also has more rounded corners than previous Treos we've seen, although the screen resolution remains a bit weak at 240 x 240 pixels. We like the included of threaded SMS (which makes you text exchanges feel more like instant messaging), as well as new support for stereo Bluetooth headsets. Out-of-the-box voice commands and miniSD memory expansion (replacing the old SD memory card slots) are also nice touches. Rounding out the major features is a 1.3-megapixel camera and, of course, Windows Mobile 5.0 with push e-mail enabled. Is the 750v a test-run for an eventual UMTS Treo here in the U.S.? We'll keep you posted.
