Nokia N93

Read the full article » Suffering from a few teething problems in the software department, the Nokia N93 is undoubtedly capable of shooting high-quality stills and truly outstanding video - as well it should, being built like a brick house. First-rate calling and messaging capabilities are also on the slate along with a boatload of additional features, but unless you're willing to sacrifice portability for the ultimate in imaging there are better balanced options to be had. Nokia N73

Score: 97% When: August 2006 Worth: €550

Nokia N73

Read the full article » Falling only marginally short of the image quality produced by its gargantuan N93 sibling, Nokia's N73 is a superb choice for shutterbugs with its excellent picture taking skills, a multitude of sharing options and compact size - but for some strange reason it skimps on memory. The basics have also been looked well after with first-rate calling and solid messaging capabilities under the hood alongside a raft of multimedia and productivity options; whether for pleasure or business, this one's a winner. When: August 2006 Worth: €725

Sony Ericsson P990i

Read the full article » More than a year old already, the Sony Ericsson P990i seems like last year's idea of what a smartphone might eventually look like. Advanced features like Wi-Fi and 3G support are welcome, and we were impressed by the handset's robust multimedia capabilities, but the P990i's interface is so different compared to other smartphones we've seen that it almost requires a secret handshake for accessibility. Meanwhile, the phone's sub-par productivity apps and sluggish performance are sure to disappoint hard-core business road warriors. Read the full article »

Sony Ericsson's brand new all-round phones
Sony Ericsson K610i

Score: 87% When: July 2006 Worth: €300

Sony Ericsson K610i

Read the full article » The K610i is all about balance - the right kinds of features, ease of use and attractive looks. Basics such as voice/video calling and messaging perform with aplomb, while the camera is one of the best we've seen sans autofocus. Sadly, the omission of earphones, insufficient memory and limited music controls make for a poor music proposal out of the box, even though memory card expansion and stereo Bluetooth audio support enables a near-full rectification of this predicament for those willing to pay. Read the full article » It's not a Walkman phone yet still a music phone; holding in the range of 75 MP3s out-of-box and complete with memory expansion, dedicated music controls and stereo Bluetooth headset support, Sony Ericsson's K618i aims to take music mainstream. In addition to its musical prowess, the handset also boasts a 2 Megapixel camera and 3G with video calling, as well as MP3 ringtones, photo blogging and the handy ability to be charged from a laptop over USB.
